Sometimes the unexpected happens, and you can’t go on your trip as planned or have to return home early. AMEX® Travel Insurance can protect you from financial losses when your trip is cancelled or interrupted due to an unexpected event.

What’s included?

Coverage is available for cancellations, interruptions and accidents that may occur before or on your trip.

Trip Cancellation Insurance

Covers non-refundable and non-transferable prepaid travel expenses if you have to cancel your trip due to unexpected or unforeseen events, up to a maximum of $10,000 per person / $20,000 per family.

Trip Interruption Insurance

Covers non-refundable and non-transferrable unused portion of your prepaid travel arrangements for trip interruptions up to a maximum of $10,000 per person / $20,000 per family. For trip delays, out-of-pocket expenses may be reimbursed up to $100 per day, up to a maximum of $1,000 per person / $3,000 per family.

Flight & Travel Accident Insurance

Provides life and disability protection for unexpected loss as a result of a travel or flight accident, up to a maximum of $50,000.

    Emergency Medical Insurance

    Out-of-Province/Country Emergency Medical benefits are provided up to a maximum of $5,000,000 per insured person, per trip, for reasonable and customary costs incurred as a result of a medical emergency during your trip.

    Coverage is available for a single trip under the Per Trip Plan and for multiple trips during the year, eligible under the Multi-Trip Annual Plan.

    Trip Cancellation Insurance

    Trip Cancellation benefits reimburse the cost of non-refundable, prepaid travel arrangements up to the amount of the sum insured in the event of trip cancellation as a result of an insured risk that happens prior to your departure.

    Coverage is available for a single trip under a Per Trip Plan or for multiple trips during the year under a Multi-Trip Annual Plan. Coverage is available for purchase at various sum insured levels, up to a maximum of $10,000 per person / $20,000 per family. The sum insured level purchased will be shown in the Confirmation of Insurance issued to you upon enrollment.

    If an insured risk occurs during your trip and causes you to interrupt your trip, Trip Interruption benefits can cover the eligible costs of transportation to your next destination or early return to your departure point. If an insured risk occurs during your trip and results in your being delayed from returning to your departure point beyond your scheduled return date, certain eligible costs associated with this trip delay can be covered.

    Coverage is available for a single trip under a Per Trip Plan or for multiple trips during the year under a Multi-Trip Annual Plan. Coverage is available for purchase at various sum insured levels, up to a maximum of $10,000 per person / $20,000 per family for trip interruption benefits. The sum insured level purchased will be shown in the Confirmation of Insurance issued to you upon enrollment.     Baggage & Personal Effects insurance covers:

    • loss, theft or damage to the baggage and personal effects you own and use during your trip up to $1,000 per trip ($3,000 per family per trip), up to a maximum of $300 for any one item or set of items;
    • up to $250 towards the replacement expenses for the loss or theft of one or more of the following documents: passport, driver’s licence, birth certificate or travel visa;
    • up to $400 for necessary toiletries and clothing when checked baggage is delayed by the carrier for 12 hours or more while en route and before returning to your departure point.
