Multilingual representatives who are experienced experts in coordinating emergency care for travellers in foreign lands will be able to assist you.

AMEX® Travel Insurance will pay eligible bills DIRECTLY to the medical provider or hospital for you whenever possible.

Medical Emergencies

If you have a medical emergency, you must call 1-844-780-0501 toll-free from the US & Canada, or +(819) 780-0501 collect from anywhere in the world before you receive emergency services. Of course, if your medical condition prevents you from calling, we understand – you must call as soon as medically possible or, as an alternative, someone else may call on your behalf (relative, friend, nurse or doctor).

If you do not call before you seek emergency services, or if you choose to seek care from a non-approved medical service provider, you will be responsible for 20% of your medical expenses covered under this insurance and not recovered from your government health insurance plan, to a maximum of $25,000. If, after reimbursement by your government health insurance plan, your claim exceeds $25,000, this insurance will pay 100% of any eligible expenses over and above $25,000.

Multilingual representatives are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the event that you have a medical emergency. You can rely on them to refer you or (when medically appropriate) transfer you to an accredited medical service provider, so you can receive the care you need as quickly as possible.

Multilingual representatives have 24-hour access to real-time translation services and can provide the help you need in your own language – and also have someone to communicate on your behalf with medical personnel who may speak a different language.

Whenever possible, we will also request that the medical service provider within our network bill the covered medical expenses directly to the insurance provider instead of you – reducing stress and hassle.

Coverage

If you have purchased a plan with trip cancellation and interruption insurance coverage and the emergency is a covered risk as per the Certificate of Insurance, you may be eligible for reimbursement of your expenses to return home if you are called home. Please read your Certificate of Insurance carefully to obtain more information on the various circumstances that qualify as covered risks.
